"For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Father of Eternity, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6).
This is the time of year that we generally promote, gifts and giving, joy and peace, and love and longsuffering. We proclaim, “Merry Christmas,” and “God bless us all, and to all a good night!” The corks are popping, the chestnuts are roasting, and the fireplace is blazing.
And yet, if we take a good look around us, one might really say, “Are you kidding me? What’s Merry and Bright? Wars and terrorism, hate crimes all around us, drugs and teen suicides, marital breakups, and the threat of nuclear disaster possibly on our doorstep. So, what is merry, where do we find our peace and happiness? How do we find joy, when it seems all around us, is anything but? You see, I’m hurting and all alone this year! I lost my job, my husband walked out on me, and I have no reason to continue to fight for what I always seem to lose. Bah, humbug!”
Has the Grinch stolen your peace, your happiness, and your security? Where is it that you look to find your peace? I just love what David wrote in Psalms 121:1-2, “I lift up my eyes to the mountains, from where does my help come from. My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Listen now, when your peace, joy, happiness, and security, is grounded on superficial things, then just like the stock market, your emotions are subject to go up and down, daily affected by things that you have no control over. One might ask, are you saying love is superficial? You could probably answer that question yourself, if you’re honest.
You see, love is not just merely a word. It is a demonstration of unconditional, unchanging, unwavering, and selfless offering. It has no conditional obligations or merit requirements. It’s without cost, without charge, freely given, selfless, timeless, bottomless, and established before the beginning of all time and creation.
Two-thousand years ago, a little baby was born in a cold manger, surrounded only by animals, and with no fanfare, pomp or circumstance. There were no fireworks or confetti. Still, He was the seed of promise that the Prophet Isaiah spoke of. He was the soon and coming King. He was the Savior that had been written about many years before. He was the Messiah, Kings of Kings and Lord of Lords – the demonstration of real Love!
The angel of the Lord appeared on that first Christmas night and said, “For there is born to you this day, in the city of David, a Savior who is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:11).
That night, true love was demonstrated in the form of an infant. It was not the ending of the story, but just the beginning. His love was not just given in birth, but also in death, and then in resurrection. The fulfillment of these Old Testament prophecies was indeed in motion.
This is what we honor and worship at Christmas – this great seed of promise. He was much more than just a “babe in the manger.” He was the creator Himself, who was with God, and was God, and made all things. It was the same Creator, who walked in the garden, in the cool of the day and knowingly foretold the necessity of His own death for you and for me. From the beginning of all time, God demonstrated graciously His love for us, according to the promise of a risen Savior, which was His Son, Jesus.
God loves you in your current circumstances, your current condition, and your current situation. His love far supersedes anything that you might be going through right now. True love is found in Him, and Him alone. “For God so Loved this world, He gave His only begotten Son”, for you and for me.
He hasn’t forgotten you. He hasn’t abandoned you. He hasn’t left you. His Word promises that He draws close to the hurting, to the hopeless, to the lost, and to the brokenhearted. When you call out His name, He answers with love.
Let this Christmas shower you with the greatest gift of all – the love of Jesus Christ. As the angel stood before Mary, and proclaimed these words, “Do not be afraid” (Luke 2:10), this same baby, whose name is Jesus, now stands at the door of your heart, and says, “Do not be afraid.” This same baby will never leave you or forsake you.
Won’t you ask Jesus, today, to shower you with all His love from above, and all His blessings from above? Won’t you take this time, right now, to commit your life to Him? It is the greatest love of all, and the greatest gift of all.

I recently received a letter, and it read:
Help! Without going into much detail, my life is a train wreck. I feel like everything I do, everything I touch, and everything I try, just ends up being a complete disaster. I can never seem to get ahead, and each time I make a little headway, it ends up all falling apart miserably, once more.
I feel like a complete failure. My wife has taken the kids and left me, my job is having layoffs, and I had to move back in with my folks. I’m struggling with some personal addictions, that have taken control of my actions, my thoughts, and all my money.
I’m not a bad guy, and I do want to change, but not quite sure how. Is there any hope for my situation? Would God even consider helping me? I’m out of answers and remedies, and I don’t know what to do next, besides contemplating ending it all! Is my situation too tough for God?
If your reading this, then I pray you’re reading this because you’ve been directed here by a loving God, that sees and knows all. I pray that what you call, accidental, I call destiny. What you call sheer coincidence, I call sovereign. What you call desperate, I call perfect timing.
Can you agree with me today, that in your current situation; in your current state of mind, there are areas of need, areas of struggle, areas of lack, areas of infirmity that many of us, including myself, are desperately experiencing and looking for answers to? And yet, I’m sure, at the same time, many of us feel we’ve exhausted all known avenues of direction. I’m sure many of us feel we’ve done all that we could humanly do. And I’m sure many of us are feeling the weight of being extremely overwhelmed by the current situation that we find ourselves in, and are experiencing. We find ourselves day after day, wondering where the answer is, how long will this continue, and when will it all end. Then tomorrow comes quickly, and we find, everything is still the same, nothing’s changed, and we persevere aimlessly through the agony of another day.
Some of us continue to fight the good fight, and yet others give up, at the sheer exhaustion of not wanting to battle through another day, or another moment. None of us want to feel the pain and anguish of what we have been burdened with, and what we’ve allowed to happen because of poor choices. Most times we give up because the answer to our dilemma seems out of reach. We think, “It’s not for me,” or, “It’s my lot in life,” or maybe, “It is what it is.” Some of us may even think, “Maybe I’ve been called to suffer for the greater good. Woe is me!”
If this is you, and you can identify with this person. If this is what’s happening in your life today, right now, at this moment, I want to whisper three simple words in your ear! They may be small, they may seem insignificant to you, they may be far, to some, they may seem unfamiliar. But take it from me, they are the only thing that can bring permanent change to a terribly bad, and permanent situation! These words are powerful! And with it, they bring hope, they bring life, they bring direction, and they bring the answer to all your needs!
God Is ABLE! Get that in your head! God is able! Get it now in your spirit, God is able! Say it out loud, GOD IS ABLE! Get it in your heart, God is able!!! Write it on a note pad and post it on your bathroom mirror, because God Is Able!!!
In my life alone, I’ve walked away from many, many desperate difficult situations, and finding clear well, God was always in control. In my book, “The Best Is Yet to Come,” I write about the ten-car pileup, in which I suffered a broken neck of the third vertebrae, and a death sentence of permanent paralysis.
My marriage was falling apart. We were separated so many times, I lost count, and we were now living in different states, and headed towards another divorce statistic! The financial struggles that we experienced were almost daily, and I remember being down to our last $ 100.00 dollars, with a baby on the way. My mother in law was given a death sentence, with only a few months to live, diagnosed with follicular non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, stage four!
Then how could I forget the blizzard conditions many years ago on the New York State Thruway! Driving back to Herkimer NY, from New Jersey. It was 11:00 pm and the conditions were hazardous! There was no one on the road, but me of course, creeping at just 20 miles per hour, and not being able to see 10 feet in front of me! The snow was falling so rapidly, the snow plows gave up on plowing until the storm subsided.
Then all at once, I lost control of the conversion van that I was driving. It spun rapidly around in circles as I lost complete control. I took my hands off the wheel and waited for the van to stop spinning. And when it did, it was facing the wrong direction, with a tractor trailer heading straight for me, head on, in complete darkness! I’m sure he could not see me in these conditions.
I could not get the van started, and prepared for the worst!
I closed my eyes and called out His name at the top of my voice,
JESUS!!! Just then, a gust of wind from out of nowhere, pushed my conversion van off the throughway, down an embankment, and into the woods, where no one could see me in the blinding snow. There were no lights, my van was standing upright and held in position of not falling further down into the ravine.
I was happy to be alive, but thought to myself, no one could see me down here in the darkness, as the snow continued to cover my van. With no heat, and temperatures in the teens, I was in trouble.
So once again I cried out, JESUS, help me!!! Just then, someone knocked on the window of my door. I turned around abruptly, and there was a man standing outside in the snow, 25 feet down an embankment, in complete darkness. He asked if I was ok. I was so distraught and visibly shaken, I don’t remember answering him. He assured me that everything would be ok, and that help was on its way. As I sensed flashing lights, I turned around and looked up as there were lights from up above, shining down now, from where I had tumbled. I then turned back to this stranger standing outside of my door, and to my complete surprise, he was gone. I called out, and no one answered me.
It took three large trucks with pulleys and cables, to lift my van back up to the main road and out of danger from falling any further. I got out of my van, and looked around for this man, but he was not there, I just wanted to thank him! Just then, I realized what had happened, so I looked up towards the heavens, and thanked God for once again coming to my rescue. I believe this man was an angel, sent from God for that moment, I so desperately needed help.
I don’t profess to have all the answers to life’s difficult questions. And if you’re looking for me to help, I’m pretty sure I just may let you down. But I can steer you in the direction of who has all the answers; someone who knows exactly what you need, and when. He is the answer to the current situation that you are in. He can restore hope to a hopeless heart, and faith to a desperate situation. He can change the hardest of difficulties, with just one word. God is Able.
Call out His name in your time of need, whatever it is. Allow God to direct your heart and mind. Run after Him, with all that is within you. He can make every crooked place straight, and create streams in the desert.
My mother in law, is still alive with no trace of cancer anywhere, healed well over 10 years ago. I walked out of a hospital 35 years ago, healed of a broken neck and paralysis. God also healed our marriage. We are now married over 36 years, with 11 grandchildren. Every one of my financial needs have been met by God over the years. He will never let his children go hungry!
I would be happy to stand with you in prayer, and believe with you for a miracle in your life. Remember, God Is Able.
